Thanks Ralph. Sand Bay Leisure Resort eh? I remember it when it was a Pontins holiday camp! Great memories of the juke box there in 1959 when I heard Buddy Holly (It Doesn't Matter Any More and Raining In My Heart) and Ritchie Valens (Donna) for the first time. I must try and get to this gig with The Rapiers for old time's sake. Keith |

Interesting to see Cliffs former backing vocalist Tony Rivers on some of these gigs. Have I missed something here, or is there a story to how he is involved now? I will certainly go to one of the gigs now. Tim |

Hi Tim Judging from ticket sales it looks as if the addition of Tony Rivers has captured a lot of interest. Theatres say they are getting increasingly desperate for "new" acts and as Tony has been living abroad for a while it is a rare chance to see him at theatre-level in Britain once again. As Bruce Welch says, Tony is Britain's "Mr Harmony" going back to the 60s and the days of Tony Rivers and The Castaways and then Harmony Grass ("Move In A Little Closer Baby"), as well as the more recent past with Cliff Richard, Shakin' Stevens, Elton John etc. Tony and Brian Wilson are great buddies and you only have to hear Tony on Beach Boy-style harmonies to realise why. You can credit Billie Davis, who has largely put these "Me And My Shadows" type shows on the road for the last four years, for getting Tony back on board, as she has done with the likes of Denny Laine in the past. Hi Greg Thanks for info on Tony Rivers, and thanks to Billie Davis for getting him on board. The late 70s and 80s, when Tony was in Cliff's backing band, was in my opinion (and others, I'm sure!), the best backing band Cliff ever had. If you look at Tony Rivers web site, it is quite interesting reading where he tells about his time with Cliff. Tim Ps. Hope this is'nt too much off topic! |

Here's the info for the Rapiers gig at The Empire Hall,Totton, Southampton on 10 October. Tickets are £10-00 each and MUST be purchased in advance from Ann Green on 02380 863356. Due to the club rules tickets cannot be purchased on the door. Cheques payable to Mrs. J A Green. Get your tickets early for this gig as it's sure to sell out quickly as it has done on previous occasions. It's a great opportunity to see The Rapiers at their very best with a mixture of Shadows instrumentals and their great vocal numbers. Don't miss it. The Victoria Hall - Hanley! The place where the Cliff and the Drifters started the Kalin Twins tour and Jet was on Bass with the Most Brothers. Nice to see the Rapiers coming so far North!! |
