I don't think you've got it quite right. Here is my impression of the lyric. I've always thought this song sounds a bit 'half-baked'...not quite finished.
The Average Life Of A Daily Man (Hank Marvin)
Driftin’ along with his head in the clouds Never had time to get his feet on the ground Thinks he’s got somethin’ the world’s needing bad Waits for the real big break that he’s never had
He’s gonna wait forever Can’t accept that he will never make it Just the average life of the daily man
Taking his coffee from people he meets Smiles at the young girl who will buy him his eats Tells her he knows that he will make it soon And when he does he’s gonna buy her the moon
She’s gonna wait forever Wonder if she knows he’ll never make it Just the average life of the daily man
Not got to sense to realise although he tries with puffed up lies To blind the eyes of friends he’s still a would-be
will never rise to any heights try as he might this world is tight don’t get no flights on first class seats that would be
He’s gonna wait forever Can’t accept that he will never make it Just the average life of the daily man Average life of a daily man
Yeah, let’s hear it now Two bars in G
